NFL’s Ban on Handbags has Women Throwing the Red Flag

The newest rule in the NFL isn’t going to affect the players, but it may upset the female fans. In the wake of the Boston bombings, the NFL is adopting new security measures that will affect what kinds of handbags fans can bring into the stadiums. The women of football are throwing the challenge flag at the NFL, as long as it isn’t during a scoring play or turnover.

The new policy set in place by the NFL limits the size and type of handbags that can be NFL Clear Totebrought in the stadiums. Beginning this preseason, women will no longer be allowed to bring standard purses into the games. Small clutches that are no bigger than your hand or large freezer bags are acceptable, but everything else must be made of clear material and be no larger than 12 x 6 x 12.

While the NFL has stated that this is purely a safety measure, they aren’t going to miss out on an opportunity to make money too. The NFL is already selling clear plastic bags with your favorite team logo that is acceptable to bring into the stadium. Many women are outraged by this new rule. Many saying that they do not want people seeing what they have in their purse and others complaining that they bring their small children with them and need big bags for supplies.

NFL officials have been listening to the early negative feedback, but feel that this is a minor inconvenience for most fans and that it will increase security and create faster access into the stadiums. Women won’t be the only ones affected, the new rule also bans camera bags, fanny packs, backpacks, and coolers too. The only exceptions will be for people with medical supplies that are too large to fit in the accepted bags.
