Let’s start with Lindsay – seen just days after her release from rehab carrying a gorgeous studded handbag…wait a minute! Studs! I thought we were done with that Lindsay! It doesn’t even matter what kind of bag it is, even though it looks mysteriously like something that Lady Gaga was carrying around a few weeks ago. The real trouble in this picture are the sale tags on the bottom of Lindsay’s shoes. First, studs and now this! Faux pas galore!

Now for one of Hollywood’s goody two-shoes: Reese Witherspoon! Carrying a large Marni Balloon Bag, Reese was seen out shopping, looking rather angry at the paparazzi. Nonetheless, she looks great with the Marni, which is a little bit last season, but pulls it off flawlessly. What does she have in that massive bag? I always want to know!

Finally, we’ll take a look at Twilight starlet Nikki Reed and her humongous handbag from Rebecca Minkoff. It’s called the Morning After bag, which must be indicative of the pajamas that are being carried inside. I can only assume. However, the bag is phenomenal…with a gorgeous purple exterior, long straps and more than enough room for a few different outfits. Huge bags are here to stay people! So let’s start guessing what they’ve got inside!

This week, we will be discussing two polar opposite types of bags – tiny little clutches and those huge, dog-holding tote bags. At a glance, clutches and totes have nothing in common, except that everyone and their mother has had them out this past week!

First, we have the beautiful and always fabulous singer Rihanna out with a cute little baby blue Miss Martini clutch from Dolce and Gabbana. As always, Rihanna matches her bag flawlessly in a baby blue button up top and khaki skirt. Very tasteful!

Elsewhere, Desperate Housewives’ Eva Longoria was seen not once, not twice, but THREE times with an Adriana Castro Annie bag. That shows serious commitment to such a small bag like the Annie clutch. However, it does look quite fetching with a number of different outfits, so bring it everywhere!

On to the totes! So many celebs with huge tote-style bags! Primarily, I focused on Leighton Meester and Anna Paquin, of TV’s Gossip Girl and True Blood respectively. Leighton’s got herself a gigantic Celine Croc Luggage Bag on the set of her show. It’s definitely a bit out of place as just a standard bag, but would be excellent on an overnight to Paris or two! Anna’s got herself a Chloe Marcie Satchel, which isn’t quite in the tote range, but could definitely carry an outfit or two. She looks busy, so I’ll leave her alone – she just got married this past weekend, you know!

C-list beauty Lindsey Price has had a bad run of luck lately. She’s been on two different networks with two different shows in the past few years and they’ve both been cancelled! They weren’t that bad either. C’est la vie, Lindsey hasn’t let the failures take a toll on her impeccable fashion. Recently, she was seen out with a gorgeous python handbag with a beautiful gray hue. Lindsey also complimented this bag with a sleek and professional black blazer and a fetching grey shirt. She’s definitely got her head in the fashion game, even if TV isn’t working out!

A few months ago, very A-lister Jessica Simpson was sporting a fabulous tiny blue clutch handbag. And guess what…it was a python style bag! Even though her outfit of a white tank and blue jeans could have used an upgrade, she totally pulled off the bag. This Sang A bag was definitely matching those jeans, but would have gone much better with a strapless blue dress. Come on Jess! Step it up!

So python is in if you want it to be in your wardrobe. It seems to be the kind of handbag style that never leaves the runway, so go for it! Just make sure your outfit works with the style. While I am glad that Kate isn’t wearing some kind of studded bag or clothing (UGH!!!), it’s slightly bizarre to see such an A-lister out with the same bag over and over again. Did she forget her clutch or her Hermes? I must admit that it is a pretty nice bag: it has lots of space for her kids’ toys, a nice chestnut brown exterior and long fringes that slightly resemble Kate’s ex-husband Chris Robinson’s shaggy face. It might be love – at least between Kate and the Ralph Lauren fringe bag, not with Robinson. The bag certain fits right in with Kate’s overall earthy fashion sense and pairs flawless with her generally long, flowing wardrobe.

So maybe the tide is changing and celebs are coming back down to earth. In a few months the new trend may be wearing handbags out in public more than once. It could be part of some green Hollywood movement, so you should probably get yourself a western-style handbag that you love as much as Kate Hudson loves her fringe bag. Who knows…maybe you’ll be able to wear it out to more than one office party without getting evil stares.

Not Katie Holmes of course. Mrs. Tom Cruise wouldn’t be caught dead with any old fashion on or near her. That’s why she was seen out the other day carrying daughter Suri while wearing this: a Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2010 Aviator. The Vuitton Pre-Fall 2010 Aviator is a truly beautiful and functional handbag that may even be considered a tote. Fellow celebrity mother Gwen Stefani has also been out with this bag, possibly storing all different kinds of kid’s entertainment inside. Holmes’ has a dark maroon bag with paisley style designs and long straps for easy carrying and comfort. Filming has begun on the smash hit show Gossip Girl and starlet Blake Lively was seen in Paris! Sure, Gossip Girl and Paris will be good, but even better is Lively’s Fendi tote, which completes her entire look. The beige exterior, smart buckles and short straps perfectly highlight the simplicity of her lush green dress and floppy hat. Look for the ensemble on the next season of Gossip Girl.

Lively’s fellow Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester was also seen on set with a stud-free handbag, which is quite a relief. Meester was seen carrying a dark purple Lanvin Mini Pop Bag on her way to filming a scene for the show. Although the purple Lanvin doesn’t quite go with the pink dress, Meester looks good carrying the bag anyway. Her wardrobe could use some serious work however. Sorry Leighton!

And last, but certainly not least, the queen of pop Britney Spears, was seen out with an adorable Coach Julia Leather Small Bag. The Julia (which Ms. Spears had in a fuchsia berry type color) features a smooth leather exterior with long straps for carrying or slinging over the shoulder. Britney was wearing an orange tank top and what’s this? Studded shorts? And studded boots? Just when I thought I was free of this hair band chic, the studs sneak into the picture. I’m just going to focus on the cute western-style handbag.

There’s always hope for next week, I guess.

For instance, young starlet Dakota Fanning (the Twilight trilogy) has been spotted just about everywhere with an Alexander Wang Studded Duffle, which furthers Fanning’s budding fashion icon status into trendsetter territory. In a slight faux pas at an airport (probably LAX), she pairs the brownish bag with a pink and white ensemble that doesn’t quite gel, but matches with her shoes. It’s a strange choice for Fanning, but I guess it kind of works…maybe.

Back to the studs! Former TV stalwart Rachel Bilson (The O.C.) has been seen all around town with a 3.1 Phillip Lim Edie Leather Handbag and also a few other designer bags featuring, what else, studs! I’m not sure where Bilson gets her fashion sense from, but she usually looks good, so maybe studs have something to do with it. Bilson seems to really love the whole studded craze, seeing as she’s rarely seen without some kind of metal embellishment on her accessories or handbags. Let’s see what she steps out with next – maybe a studded cardigan?

Finally, never one to be left out of the tabloids, Jennifer Love Hewitt (Ghost Whisperer) was out the other day with a Novella Royale Mister Studded Purse, which has been seen on Taylor Momsen and Kristin Cavalleri, according to this article. Maybe this is a sign that the stud craze is going to be over soon – three D-listers with the same studded bag. That’s never a good sign.

Look what you’ve done Gaga. Stop with the studs so I can write about something else.

When you think of TV talk show host and overall nice person Kelly Ripa, the last celebrity you may associate with her would be Lady Gaga. Of course, I’m sure that Lady Gaga has been on Live with Regis and Kelly, but I wouldn’t expect these two to have much in common. Apparently though, Kelly and Gaga have the same fashion sense…kind of.

Just a few days ago, Kelly was spotted with a Hermes’ Birkin bag while out with her husband. This is the same bag that we previously spotted Lady Gaga out with, but with her custom addition: tons of little metal studs. Normally this would be considered a faux pas, but it seems like Lady Gaga can get away with anything she wants.

At the steep price of more than $10,000, I definitely wouldn’t be putting a hundred studs through my purse, but it’s a personal preference. The hot colors for winter (reds and grays) have already been popping up this summer on the arms of some of the biggest celebrities and fashion icons in the world. Megan Fox, the actress best known for the Transformer movies, appeared recently with such a python clutch at a premier for Jonah Hex.
