Back to School e-Commerce Spending Set to Wow

back to school shopping

If you’re a retailer, especially in clothing and fashion, then you know just how big the back to school season is for your bottom line. Each year parents flock to stores to make purchases for the year ahead. This year, sales in the online shopping side of things are predicted to see an increase. Could it even surpass spending happening at brick and mortar locations? The numbers look promising.

Last month, Adobe released a “Digital Dollar” report that showed more people were going online to search for items and purchase them to meet their back to school needs.

The report, which looked at the entire forecast period for Q2 saw U.S. spending online go up especially around Memorial Day and forecasts the same rise to continue through Q3 for back to school shopping season with the biggest day expected to be Labor Day.

From the period beginning in late July and through Q3 the report predicts $58B in spending. While a lot of the purchases will also include school supplies to last throughout the year and will be driven by retailer offers and discounts, there is a lot of any e-commerce provider to pay attention to.

For starters, if consumers are already online shopping around for goods, they could stumble on your site. You need to ensure your site has correct inventory, the purchase process is easy and that shoppers find a reason to buy.

Some of the top trends to think about this year are mini backpacks, baseball caps with creative wording, ponchos for the winter weather and phone bags to hold smartphones.
