Popularity of Handbags at Auction

Auction GavelDesigner handbags are the kind of item that never seem to be in short supply, especially if you are type of retailer who stocks wholesale bags. New designs are abundant in the fashion world and let’s face it, some are absolutely stunning examples of western style. However, one type of handbag is always at the top of the popularity, even though they aren’t very new at all – vintage fashion handbags. These older collections of bags seem to be bringing the most posh and wealthy fashion fanatics out of the wood work.

For instance, the Oxford Mail reports about a recent collection that is expected to fetch a mass sum of money from one lucky bidder. The auction of this collection is coming up soon:

“The auction of more than 400 pairs of designer shoes, 200 handbags and almost 1,000 items of women’s designer clothing at Bonhams is expected to fetch well over £100,000. They are all from the private collection of one mystery owner.  Claire Browne, head of Bonhams textiles department, said: “It has been an absolutely crazy thing to be involved in.”

These types of private collections are the really popular ones, because the majority of them have been hidden from the public view. They usually bring in huge amounts at auction because the fashion included in them is rare and/or very old. The article says that fashion auctions have been very lucrative for designers over the last year in Great Britain:

“Items from the buyer in total have raised more than £1.4m to date. The final sale at Bonhams in Oxford on December 4 will feature 60 Chanel tweed suits, dozens of coats, jackets, dresses, sunglasses and Hermès silk scarves. Shoes come from Dior, Chanel, Christian Louboutin, Stella McCartney and Yves Saint Laurent, while clothes include pieces by Valentino, Prada and Ralph Lauren.”

Maybe one day your collection will be highly sought after as well! Keep your fashion items in good shape in case that day comes along!
