Jayshree Patel, a 20-year-old British designer, has launched her own line of premium handbags. Patel says her goal was to create affordable, fashionable, and timeless accessories made from quality materials.
All of the bags are crafted from high-quality Saffiano or ostrich print leather with floral, silk blend linings. The bags have pockets that are secure, waterproof, and roomy enough to hold a tablet or laptop. They have a range of handling options and a variety of shapes and sizes, including barrel and round shapes. Each has a Lily Lyn nameplate, logo-finished zippers, and detailed lock. The debut collection has five designs, each of which is available in a choice of two colors. The bags are sold exclusively online.
Patel has worked in her family’s business since the age of 13. She has been fascinated by handbags since she was five years old. She remembers her first handbag, a small black and velvet purse that her mother gave her for a wedding. That bag later inspired her to create Lily Lyn.
She designed her handbag line to fill a gap that she saw in the market. She believed there were not enough handbags made from the same premium materials as luxury handbags at affordable prices.
Patel says she has already had a positive response to her initial collection of Lily Lyn handbags. She is currently in the process of working on a second group of bags. That collection will consist of a series of clutches that will match the handbags in the first collection.
Patel started her business after receiving a loan from BFS Start Up Now, part of the UK government’s Start Up Loans program delivered by Business Finance Solutions. She used the money from the loan to invest in products and advertising. Patel took advantage of the BFS team’s business development expertise to help her plan for her company’s growth and to explore a variety of sales opportunities and networks.
