Kate Spade Announces Partnership with Everpurse

Kate Spade EverpurseMany people have found that their cell phone batteries were dying when they were away from home and they either didn’t have a charger or had nowhere to plug it in. Brands are now trying to make life more convenient by making it easier to charge cell phones and stay connected when a charger is not available.

Kate Spade New York has announced a new partnership with Everpurse to produce a line of stylish handbags with embedded chargers that can charge cell phones. The handbags will go on sale in September and are designed for consumers who live a life on the go.

Kate Spade and Everpurse have collaborated to produce a collection of totes, clutches, wristlets, and backpacks that can last two days on a full charge. The bags don’t need to be plugged in. A handbag can merely be placed on a wireless charging mat on a countertop to keep the bag and phone charged.

The bags work with several recent versions of iPhones, including 5, 5s, 5c, 6, and 6 Plus. Until now, wireless charging has been limited to some Windows phones, Android handsets, and a handful of other phones.

Everpurse is a fashion-tech startup based in Chicago. It was founded in 2012 by Dan and Liz Salcedo and received $238,000 in initial funding through a successful Kickstarter campaign. The Salcedos found that their handbags appealed to women 30 and up who were on the go.

Everpurse had previously produced its own handbags. The partnership with Kate Spade is a departure from that practice. The terms of the deal between Everpurse and Kate Spade were not disclosed.
